Modular construction falls under the industry of construction and building. As a sector within its own rights, it involves the production of constructions under controlled company conditions. The only difference of module-oriented constructions and site-built structures is that the former are products off-site. However, the building codes and standards, materials, as well as designing are the same. Modules are produced in the factory independently, but assembled on-site. Relocatable buildings (RB) are produced using the module-oriented technique and they may be fully or partially assembled. State and federal standards exist to ensure that safety and quality are met. These structures are designed so that they can be repurposed or reused as many times as possible. Relocation to new sites is also simple. RBs find use in many different cases. They can be used as sales centers, construction site offices, schools, church buildings, and medical clinics.

A relocatable building benefits those who have more use for it. First, it is fast to deliver and simple to relocate. Also, they are cheaper and can be reconfigured to any design a person wants easily. Moreover, they provide accelerated depreciation schedules and are highly flexible. These structure are not installed on permanent foundations at any location they are used. Infact, they fixed to comply with the directions from the producers and local construction standards.

When considering structural integrity, prefabricated structures offer more strength compared to site-built construction. This is because each of the modules used is engineered independently to be able to withstand pressure placed on them during transportation and installation. After they have been installed together and sealed, they become a single integrated unit composed of one floor, roof, and wall. The independent testing and inspection protocols promote superior quality of construction at all stages of production.

Several benefits are associated with this mode of construction. The first benefit comes from a significant reduction in the amount of time needed for construction. It takes less than half the time needed to construct conventional structures to construct prefab homes. Also, designs and styles of the finished product have increased a lot because of better technology that allows for the use of better materials and methods of construction.

With Module-oriented construction, over 80 percent of building construction activities from the site is avoided. This reduces traffic and frequent site interference. The security and safety is also improved. In academic and healthcare settings, the reduction in onsite construction activity is essential as it enhances continuity of routine without disruptions.
