For Good Powder Coating Denver Offers A Recommendable Destination

By Christopher Fisher

Powder coating is one of the methods that are in use currently for the application of finishes on objects and surfaces. This method is not like conventional painting methods that use liquid paint to achieve a finish. Instead, this method makes use of dry powder. The process is usually more complicated than painting, and requires special equipment. However, the steps followed are the same. When in need of Powder coating Denver should be visited.

The first step in this process is to prepare the surface by removing cleaning it and smoothening it if necessary. The second process involves the actual application of the powder. Lastly, the powder applied is cured in place to form the final finish. The curing process is done inside a special equipment referred to as an oven. Curing requires heat for it to occur. The heat must be applied and maintained consistent in the oven at all times during curing.

The resultant finish is normally consistent, durable and very smooth. Apart from this, using this method it is possible for one to achieve many varying special effects. Possible special effects that can be achieved include fine, wrinkle, river rein, multi-component, translucent and domant. Every effect has a distinctive appearance and a certain procedure of doing it.

The wrinkle effect is usually achieved through epoxy, urethane, or polyester chemistry. It is a hard effect to achieve and novices usually have a hard time working with it. However, with some practice on sample surfaces, one can finally get used to it and become perfect. The application of the substrate and the curing process are usually the two main stages that present problems to novices.

Before begin the process, individuals need to ensure that the surface is well cleaned and dried. It is vital to have consistency during the cleaning so that all corners of the surface are cleaned properly and dried. This helps to avoid the sports to form in the final finish. Uniform temperatures need to be maintained in the oven when curing is taking place. The finish is ruined when some sections in an oven hotter than others.

Translucent finishes are available in a wide variety of colors. This type of finish applies powder onto the surface but manages to let light pass through it. This beautiful spectacle is preferred and loved by most people. To achieve this, polyester or chemistries of urethane is used. In comparison to urethane finishes, polyester finishes tend to be less smooth in the final exterior and have limited durability. Although, stickier, urethanes offer better general appearance and flow.

However, there is one major shortcoming associated with translucent finish. The shortcoming is that uneven pigmentation is much easier to achieve in the final work. Unevenness in the pigmentation tends to occur mostly in objects that are irregularly shaped. Variations in thickness of up to a half a millimeter can be observed. It is also possible to use a base coat in the same way that undercoats are used in conventional liquid painting.

Base coats help in achieving uniformity, especially if the coloring of the surface is not uniform. Translucent finishes are hugely preferred because they tend to offer impressive brightness that surpass most other finishes. This brightness works well on stainless steel surfaces.
