Playing With A Child Can Be The Best Therapy

By Ronald Lewis

Children are a joy to watch and have. These little angels give life and laughter to homes. A home is quiet and dreary without their presence. They are cute and lovable and can be very funny at times. Parents give them special attention as they grow under their watchful gaze. Sadly, there are some who are born with brain deficiencies. One does not have to worry. They can engage the services of a therapist who has child centered play therapy certification.

As children enter into the toddler stage, they will begin to show signs of normalcy. Uncommon behavior becomes apparent at this stage and it will be easy for an observant parent or guardian to see this. Guardian and parent should be very keen on handling this kind of situation. The best action is to refer the case to a medical expert. Even then, some cases are known to have been misdiagnosed as an illness which complicates matters even more.

Children become more problematic as they grow. This can be caused by the absence of proper care and guidance from parents who are always at work. It also is very definitive that there is a failure in communications as adults have the tendency to misunderstand and negatively react to kid tantrums. There is a known gap of communication between adults and children and this becomes wider as grownups try to impose their method of communicating.

Talking or speaking to youngsters will stunt the development of the kids. This is because they are still in the process of learning the medium and do not yet have an adequate facility. It really is awkward and restrictive when one comes to think about it. Having adequate speech facility will take years to develop yet most grownups are oblivious of this.

A child who is playing is its way of expression as speech is that of adults. A careful observation of a kid playing will give credence to the theory that it is its way of exploring things, displaying wishes, role playing, expressing emotions, and playing out experiences. Play centered clinical intervention uses the concept of being with the patients rather than forcing it on them.

Kids display more of themselves when they talk about things that are to his or her liking. Asking first about what the favorite toys are, the things he likes, his pets, friends will get far better responses than asking the kid about his problems. This concept is geared towards the development of a young tot. This will allow children to sort things out through communicating on a medium that is comfortable to them.

Developing language skill in children is a step back compared to the development of recognition. It is not uncommon for a child to have an imaginary playmate. The world of at very young kids is a world of make believe, play, fantasy, imagery, and role playing. This therapy utilizes toys as an avenue for them to express comfortably. The employment of toys provides them a way of getting rid of ill feelings, fears, and anxieties by directing them at an object rather than on individuals.

In this type of intervention, playing is very significant as it provides the little ones with an avenue of expressing their world. They make use of toys to symbolically represent experiences that they cannot otherwise express in words. This is more comfortable and familiar to them. By acting out bad events through play, they are able to find out for themselves some solutions and are better equipped to cope up with problems.

This practice is governed by the association for play therapy. It has very stringent requirements. Certification includes therapists, therapist supervisors, and school based registered therapists. To be certified one must possess a masters degree in child development and adult psychotherapy or its equivalent field. Applicants must have two thousand or more hours of clinical exposure.
