Understanding The Ozone Systems And How They Work

By Margaret Young

Ozone generators can greatly reduce the use of chemicals in the pool. They are powered by gas. It can be just as effective as a chlorine system at both oxidizing and sanitizing and is considered an environmentally friendly alternative. Some swimmers find that they are sensitive to chemicals and get skin irritation from swimming in chemically treated pools, and an ozone system means less chemicals in the pool. Sometimes, a small amount of chemical is required in addition to the ozone generator, but reducing the amount is an improvement. You should consult a pool maintenance professional to know the proper balance your pool need. Clearly, there is a lot to learn about ozone systems, but what matters is the benefits it brings.

Ozone is created by using energy. The energy is applied to oxygen(O2) which splits the molecule(O1)(O1). This leaves two molecules that require a bond. They then join to another oxygen molecule forming ozone. When Ozone(O3) finds an organic smell it will oxidize the smell breaking the bond.

Using an ozone generator or ozone machine is one of the most powerful tools to use in the arsenal to kill mold and to destroy the potent chemicals off-gassed and the mold poisons called mycotoxins that it produces. Ozone kills mold 3,125 times faster than chlorine bleach. It also kills the spores which are the seeds. It will even break down the mycotoxin based poisons and the gasses called MVOC's.

Ozone is an excellent disinfectant and oxidant. Because of these properties, they are extensively used in water treatment plants to purify water. It is very efficient when compared to other water purifying systems because an ozone machine installed at homes is not just capable of removing viruses, fungi bacteria and chemical components, but also increases the oxygen level in the body. When installed in large water treatment plants, ozone can eliminate organic and inorganic matter and micropollutants.

With the use of Ozone shock treatments you are able to oxidize organic odours such as cigarette smoke. This will benefit you in selling your vehicle or home. The Ozone oxidation cleaning process does not hide the cigarette smell it will eliminate it at an atomic level.

Rather than try to cover up an odor with perfumes that evaporate rather quickly, why not eliminate the odorants at the source? For many years there have been a variety of machines called ozone generators that have been available for use by auto detailers.

In order for ozone to be effective you need to reach shock levels of the gas in the areas being treated. Most homeowner grade ozone generators never reach shock levels, and the homeowner is forced to let the machine run for days on end, to accomplish an effect.

Ultraviolet light systems uses fluorescent light to create ozone very similar to the way the sun does naturally. Corona discharge is a newer technology than the ultraviolet light system. The "corona" is an electrical field that is created by diffusing an electrical charge over a dielectric surface. A UV ozone system produces a smaller concentration of ozone, somewhere around 10% less than corona systems. Also, more electricity is required to run these systems. The lamps used on these units require replacement, so the system needs to be updated more than corona systems.
