Benefits Of Electroless Nickel Coating MI

By Debra Howard

The electroless nickel (EN) plating process creates a nickel phosphorous covering which could be used in enhancing wear and tear resistance, increase the hardness of a surface and enhance corrosion. The plating does not require the introduction of any electric current into the plating surface. Instead this process occurs as a result of a chemical reaction. The article highlights elements you should know about the electroless nickel coating MI.

Your coating will be uniform always. They involve the use of a chemical remains on the surface to be coated. You can also achieve a uniform coating with the other way, but you have to be extra keen and precise. With the electroless option, you do not have to strain you can achieve this easily.

Make sure you prepare the parts thoroughly. The parts that will be used for this process need to be chemically mixed and rinsed well to get rid of all the debris and the particles. Debris and dirt are additives that will only interfere with the whole process. The status of the area can be enhanced by using coarse shot peening and sandblasting.

Ensure that the water you are using is completely pure. The entire chemical process can be compromised if the water contains impurities. It is, therefore, wise that the water is tested and purified completely to get rid of possible contaminants like ions, foreign matter among other substances.

Consider the kind of tank you will use for this process. It is advisable that you either use a polypropylene or stainless steel tank during this process. The stainless tanks, for instance, will last for long but they will require passivation process to make them anodic. Polypropylene is hence the most preferred as it will prevent the plate out of the EN back in that tank.

Filtering is another thing to consider. When you filter, you eliminate the insoluble materials. With the insoluble materials removed you stand a better chance of coming up with a more pure solution for the process. This will then, in turn, complete the coating giving you the best results.

Keep the temperature in check at all times. You need to be extra keen in these levels of temperature set during the process. They need not be too high as that might quicken the decomposition process while on the other hand, the process might be sluggish if the temperatures are low.

You can counter check the solution to make sure they are the right solutions before the process. Checking if all the solution re-diluted to the right conditions and that they are not contaminated will not kill you. Like seen above, the cleanliness and type of the container might compromise the outcome of the process.

Always do a post treatment process. For instance, the end results of this process could lead to staining which is a harmful condition. The staining can be reduced and eliminated by applying a post treatment chromate. That will ensure you get the best results. A post treatment checkup will also help you assess the results of your process and consider whether you have the desired results.
